      Agriculture Department, Government of Orissa have created a separate Office for the Project Director, Watershed, Bargarh with supporting staff for smooth management of Watershed Development Programme being implemented under different Government schemes as well as Watersheds under DFID assisted WORLP in 9 blocks of Bargarh District. Watershed Programmes which were managed by the DRDA have been transferred to the control of Project Director Watersheds for effective implementation and management since 2005.

            The Office of the Project Director, Watersheds, Bargarh is now functioning with Head quarters at Padampur with supporting staff (Sanctioned Position) like  4-Asst. Project Directors, 1-Head Clerk, 2-Sr. Clerk, 2-Jr. Clerk, 1- Jr. Steno, 1-Driver, and 3- fourth grade staff. 

            Besides, 2 Capacity Building Team (CBT) members (sanctioned strength 4 nos.) recruited from the open market under WORLP are working in the field of Livelihoods & Micro Enterprise. The other two posts of Natural Resource Management and Monitoring & Evaluation are lying vacant.  

            At present 10 PIAs are working under this Project consisting of 2 Asst. Agriculture Engineers, 6 JSCOs and 2 NGOs.  

            Under DFID assisted Western Orissa Rural Livelihood Project (WORLP), 4 Blocks-Sohela, Jharbandh, Padampur, and Gaisilet have been included from the year 2005-06 where in 10 watersheds in each of the Blocks has been taken up.

            In Dec 2007, the Plus activities (Livelihood Component) were extended to continuing 50 watersheds of 6 DPAP and one IWDP block.   

          Under Drought Prone Area Programme (DPAP) 110 nos micro watershed projects are being implemented in 6 DPAP blocks of Padampur Sub – division.  

         Under Integrated Wasteland Development Programme (IWDP) 23 nos of micro watersheds are being implemented in 3 blocks of Bargarh Sub- division namely Bhatli, Barpali & Ambabhona.  

         Under Integrated Watershed Management Programme (IWMP) 41 nos of micro watersheds are being implemented in 4 blocks of Padampur Sub- division namely Padampur , Paikmal, Jhabandh & Bijepur. Further proposal for another 9 nos of clusters have been submitted to the Government.  

       Beside the above watershed development programmes MGNREGS is also being implemented by this office which is funded by DRDA, Bargarh.
